FAQ

What is Fooooty??

Fooooty is a massively multi-player online (MMO) text-based football (soccer) management simulation webgame, with elements of 'incremental' and 'idle' styles of play.

What is the objective of Fooooty?

To become the most legendary football manager in the game, by guiding various fictional clubs from around the world to their national championship as a result of your coaching and management choices.

How do I start to play Fooooty?

Because you'll be pitting your wits against other human managers like yourself all club information is stored on the Fooooty server, thus requiring you to register an account before you start to play. (This is to ensure you and only you can change your club's tactics, while allowing all other managers to pit their wits against your club's most recently set tactics.) Click the Register link near the top of the page (TBD), enter your email address, read the rules and select the checkbox to indicate that you have indeed read the rules, then click Submit. You'll be asked to enter the code which will have been emailed to you. Enter the code, click Continue, and you'll be taken to your clubhouse where you'll already have some coaching and management decisions to make.

What do I do first?

Make sure you have 11 players in your team! Otherwise your club is likely to lose all its matches against clubs that DO have 11 players in their team - which is all of them! Immediately after completing your registration you'll discover your team has only 10 players. Oops! You'll have to add one more from your squad to make a team of exactly 11 players. From the clubhouse screen click Players then click the + button next to one of the unassigned players. This will assign the player to your team.

Why are things happening without me doing anything?

Your team plays matches automatically. All teams in Fooooty play all matches on a schedule set by the server regardless of whether you do anything or not. Every 60 seconds your team will play the next match in its list of fixtures right up until the end of the season. This is when some clubs in your division will be promoted and some relegated. Once this has happened a new fixture list is generated for all the clubs in your division and it all starts all over again. Matches and seasons happen automatically. It never stops, even if you log out and come back another day.

How do I win a match?

Just like in real life football, the team that scores the most goals in a match is the declared the winner and the other team is declared the loser. To win a match your team must therefore score more goals than your opponement. A goals is scored when a shot on target gets past a goalkeeper. (A higher level goalkeeper has a better chance of stopping a shot.) The number of shots on goal in a match is calculated by comparing the total levels of players in a team's Forward positions against the total levels of the opposing teams's Defender positions. The total levels of players in each team's Midfield positions when compared also counts towards the number of shots, though not as much as from Forwards against Defenders. In some cases shots can come from a team's Defenders if the total levels of their Defenders is more than the opposiing team's Forwards. Add up all the shots calculated from all the outfield areas and each team will have their number of shots for the match. If a shot is not stopped (by the goalkeeper for instance) the shot ends up in the back of the net - goal! If the number of goals scored by each team is the same at the end of a match, the match is declared a tie. The club of the winning team in a match is awarded three divisional points to be added to their points total for that season, the clubs of teams involved in a tied game are awarded one divisional point each.

Do I have to make changes to my team every match?

No, in general if you have 11 players in your team you're good for at least the rest of the season. All matches happen automatically so you can take care of other club related things without having to keep clicking back to confirm your lineup every minute. As you progress through the game, you'll be able to automate more and more of your club by hiring clubroom staff and ordering the construction of various facilities and buildings.

What happens if I stop playing the game, for example to sleep?

The game continues without you, and your club will be promoted or relegated depending on how many matches they win/lose/draw and therefore how many points they have at the end of each season. Your players wlll age, youth players will join your team to replace older retiring players, so when you return to the game your squad could be completely different from the one you had before you logged out. It is likely that without continued management your club will be in a lower division than when you left it. Not to worry, this happens to all clubs when their manager isn't making changes whilst logged in, so be assured it all evens out. At the end of a season clubs that have been managed are more likely to be promoted, and clubs that have not been managed are more likely to be relegated. It won't take you long to regain promotion if you were relegated. In a division of ten clubs there are 18 matches per season (nine home plus nine away) played one match per minute, so promoting out of a low division can take as a little as 20 minutes.

What's the difference between team, squad, and club?

Your team is the 11 players you have selected to play the next match. Your squad is the complete list of all your players at the club whether you've selected them to be in the team or not; it includes youth players, injured players, transfer listed players, players sitting out suspensions, and of course the 11 players in the team. A club is everything the manager is not; the clubhouse, the players, the staff, the facilities, the arena, the money in the club's bank account, and the fans who support the club. If you leave a club to go manage a different one, you leave behind everything at your original club and must accept that your new club will have a different clubhouse, players, etc. All you are allowed to take with you is your reputation from your previous clubs ... plus various perks awarded for achieving certain milestones. Changing the club you manage is "prestiging" - think of it as cashing in your achievements at the club for perks at your next club.

Are all clubs managed by people like me?

No, many clubs are not managed at all and the ones that are managed by other humans like yourself are likely on 'auto-pilot' while their manager is busy sleeping in real life or doing whatever it is you humans do. A club without a human manager is said to be controlled by a 'bot manager'. A bot manager is a server-controlled manager that is very predictable. Bot managers tend to not change their approach to team selection and almost always play using the same style as their previous match. If you look closely at a bot managed club's match history you can predict fairly well what kind of team they will field against you. After you get the hang of the game, beating an evenly matched bot club should be straightforward if you play with the right tactics.
